William Worthern – Swimming – Mountain Ridge HS
Will finished out the swim season strong, after a beginning that nearly took him out. He lost a family member the week prior to team tryouts. He injured his entire arm within a couple weeks of the season starting. Will spent most of the season attending physical therapy a couple times a week, in addition to a grueling swim practice schedule. He showed true grit as he persevered to maintain Honor Roll grades in his classes, which include some concurrent enrollment courses. No sooner had Will been cleared from physical therapy, than did he end up becoming sick with back to back illnesses, including pneumonia. Still he personified the phrase “just keep swimming” and was able to finish out the season with some personal bests. Beyond all that, he genuinely cares for his teammates and leads in school spirit by attending events for all the other sports as well.
